How to do aquamarine heat treatment?

Hi, I’ve been trying to heat treat aquamarines using crock pot with liner out & sand in. So far, they’ve crashed, with the odd exception of one that looked like it had shattered on the inside and somehow became labradorite!! :O( Could you give me tips??
