Apart from testing in lab with gemological instruments, Is there any other way to identify whether cat’s eye gemstone is real or fake?
Use a white light torch and when you face light on top of the stone then you will see a vertical line and when you move stone slowly from right to left or left to right then that line moves also.
Cat’s eye effect only comes in cabochon gemstones of certain varites. There are many fake (man-made glass) cat’s eye stone in the market/trade which can easily be identified with “honeycomb effect”. When seen through microscope or 10x lens at the gridle (just where the semi-dome ends) of a stone, if it resembles honeycomb effect, then the stone is a fake (glass) stone.
