I have a question which may be stupid… If anyone could help me I would would be very grateful.
I have been digging around on the net for beads made from my girlfriend’s birthstone. I want to make her an anklet “just because”.
Sapphire and Lapis Lazuli are the stones I have found. What I want to know is, are they the same thing? Are they different? Are they different stages of formation of the same rock….?
Please help!
Sapphire and Lapis Lazuli are completely different stones.
- Sapphire comes in transparent to opaque while Lapis Lazuli mostly comes in opaque.
- Sapphire chemical composition is different than Lapis Lazuli.
- Sapphire comes in many colors like: green, pinkish orange, pink, white, yellow, etc. but Lapis Lazuli comes in blue, greenish blue or purple blue color.
- Lapis Lazuli is a mixture of several minerals that’s why it’s a rock; while Sapphire is not a rock.
- Both of them appears different visually.
